Graphic Designer

Location: National Community Church (NCC), Washington, D.C.

Position Summary
The Graphic Designer supports the mission of National Community Church by creating compelling visual communications that inspire, engage, and advance ministry initiatives. This role is responsible for developing creative concepts and executing high-quality designs across print, digital, web, social media, and environmental platforms. The Graphic Designer plays a key role in maintaining and evolving the visual identity of NCC while collaborating with ministry leaders, communicators, and external partners to bring ideas to life with excellence and creativity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Graphic Design & Creative Development
- Create visually compelling designs for print, digital, web, social media, and environmental applications.
- Develop creative concepts and visual solutions that support church-wide communications and ministry initiatives.
- Ensure all designs align with NCC brand standards and maintain visual consistency across platforms.
- Translate ideas, messaging, and ministry objectives into engaging visual experiences.
2. Brand Management & Visual Identity
- Help maintain and strengthen the visual identity of NCC and its ministries.
- Create and oversee weekend message series branding for in-person and online experiences.
- Ensure brand consistency across multiple communication channels and audience touchpoints.
- Develop graphics and creative assets that effectively communicate the church’s mission and vision.
3. Collaboration & Project Management
- Partner closely with the Chief Communications Officer, Senior Producer, ministry leaders, and other stakeholders to develop and execute creative projects.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously from concept through completion.
- Coordinate timelines, priorities, and project deliverables while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Utilize project management tools and systems to track assignments and communicate progress.
4. Digital & Multimedia Support
- Design graphics and creative content for websites, social media, digital campaigns, and other online platforms.
- Collaborate with communications and media teams to support video, web, and social media initiatives.
- Create engaging visual assets that enhance audience engagement and ministry effectiveness.
- Support special campaigns, events, and church-wide communication efforts through innovative design solutions.
5. Leadership & Creative Direction
- Provide creative guidance and art direction to freelance designers and contractors as needed.
- Review creative work to ensure quality, brand alignment, and project objectives are met.
- Contribute ideas that elevate NCC’s creative standards and foster innovation across ministries.
- Assist in building collaborative relationships with artists, musicians, teaching pastors, and ministry leaders.
6. Ministry Partnership & Communication
- Collaborate with ministries and departments to maximize the effectiveness and impact of design projects.
- Listen, learn, and build upon stakeholder feedback to produce exceptional creative work.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, ministry leaders, and external vendors.
- Serve as a creative resource for church ministries and organizational initiatives.
7. Event & Weekend Support
- Support weekend services, conferences, and special events through visual design and creative execution.
- Assist with the development of promotional materials, signage, and event branding.
- Respond to time-sensitive creative needs during major ministry events and campaigns.
- Ensure creative assets are delivered accurately and on schedule.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably within an in-house creative team.
- Experience coordinating and providing guidance to designers, contractors, or creative partners.
- Experience in a church, ministry, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Strong understanding of graphic design principles, typography, layout, and visual storytelling.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to receive, interpret, and implement feedback effectively.
- Creative thinker with curiosity, initiative, and a passion for innovation.
- Experience collaborating across departments and supporting a variety of stakeholders.

Work Environment
- Primarily office-based work with extended periods of computer and design software use.
- May require occasional lifting and transport of design materials, displays, or event signage.
- Availability for weekends, evenings, and special church events as needed.
- Fast-paced, collaborative environment supporting multiple ministries and deadlines.
- Frequent interaction with staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, contractors, and creative partners.
